Entry #1: A first post

Welcome to my first blog, entirely written in english!

(actually it's the second one)



Here, dear visitor, you will witness my entries for the written assigments of a certain subject that I am taking, so be prepeared for the most wild and exciting content! This will be a sort of portfolio, a collection of works.

This is actually my second blog, but the first one (not related to this subject) only saw one initial entry, and then I lost it, somewhere. That is to say, I do not know what to actually write on a blog :P

    Welcome, Daniel! Remember that English (as any other adjective of place) starts with a capital initial letter, both when you refer to the language or the nationality. Something else, don't worry about what to write! Stella will guide you.

Entry #12: Three videos and Yule's threory

I will take the next three videos and, using Yule’s key concepts, analyze them to highlight the underlying situation. The concepts that I’m referring to are accent, dialect, and regional dialect. In this video, the character from The Pink Panther has to learn to speak in more Standard English accent. He, naturally, produces English with a very strong French accent, because of his place of origin. The difficulty of producing Standard English leads to the comical situation presented in the video. Here, each of the students presents a different problem regarding the correct pronunciation or the grammar of Standard English. The first one, who opens the sketch, states that he has troubles with his grammar. The second student agrees, but he mispronounces the words “grammar” and “spell”. This may be due to his sociolect (he seems to be from the suburbs of some great city, like New York), which in Yule’s terms, is "a type of social dialect in reference to the economic social cla...

Entry #7: From paragraph to essay

My notes from " From paragraph to essay " include: 4 types sentences: Paragraph introducers: can be either topic introducer or topic sentence. Topic introducer: establish the topic of discussion. Topic sentence: narrowly defines the topic. Paragraph developers: present examples or details of the topic. Paragraph modulators: provide transition between sets of ideas. Transitional sentences provide this function in paragraphs by comparison. Useful in procedure 2. Paragraph terminators: conclude the ideas, restate the topic sentence or synthesize. List paragraphs: list items using transitional words to avoid a shopping list appearance. Paragraph by example. Is a kind of list paragraph. Lists examples to support the topic sentence.
